U.S. probe Down came out of the asteroid's orbit Vista

غادر المسبار الاميركي داون مدار الكويكب فيستا، احد اكبر كويكبات المجموعة الشمسية، متجها الى الكوكب القزم سيريس الذي يفترض ان يبلغه في شباط/فبراير من العام 2015، بحسب ما اعلنت الخميس وكالة الفضاء الاميركية (ناسا).
وابتعد داون عن فيستا قرابة الساعة 06,26 ت.غ. من يوم الاربعاء، واكدت الاتصالات بالمسبار التي تجرى بواسطة شبكة الاتصالات في الفضاء البعيد خروجه من مدار فيستا، وفقا لما ذكرت الناسا على موقعها الالكتروني.
اطلق مسبار داون في 27 ايلول/سبتمبر 2007، ودخل في مدار الكويكب فيستا في 16 تموز/يوليو 2011.
وعمل المسبار على مدى 12 شهرا على رسم خارطة لسطح هذا الكويكب هي الأولى من نوعها.
ويكمن أحد الاهداف الرئيسية من إطلاق هذا المسبار المزود بآلة تصوير عالية الدقة وجهازين لقياس الطيف في "الاحاطة باللحظات الاولى لنشوء المجموعة الشمسية" قبل 4,6 مليارات سنة، ومحاولة فهم طريقة تشكل كل من كويكب فيستا والكوكب القزم سيريس، الواقعين بين المريخ والمشتري، على ما أوضحت الناسا.
وقد اكتشف الكوكب القزم سيريس في العام 1801، وهو ذو شكل كروي مع قطر يبلغ 960 كيلومترا، ويحتوي على مياه على شكل جليد بنسبة 25%.
وفي العام 2006، صنف سيريس كوكبا قزما الى جانب بلوتو وايريس، وفقا لتصنيف جديد وضعه الاتحاد الفلكي الدولي بعد نقاش حاد على تصنيف بلوتو الذي كان في ما مضى يعتبر كوكبا عاديا.
اما فيستا، فقد اكتشف في العام 1807، وهو عبارة عن صخرة كبيرة ذات شكل غير منتظم نواتها مكونة من الحديد مع قطر متوسط يبلغ 520 كيلومترا.
وبلغت المسافة التي قطعها مسبار داون حتى الان 5,1 مليار كيلومتر، وقد كلف هذا المشروع 466 مليون دولار
